Hi,

I want to take B2B card payments over the phone and also online. I also want to take B2C card payments from my website very soon. What is the best solution for me? Do I need two solutions, one for B2B and one for B2C? If so which ones are better?

For B2B I'll be taking payment in the region of £50-£2000 on average and probably 10-30 times a months. For website B2C payments will be more frequent (at least that's the plan) but of lower value.

Thanks.

from my experience, merchants doing what you're doing tend to keep them both separate. You'll have one site for B2C and the other for B2B. I would suggest that you stay away from providers like Stripe as they'll eat into your profits, especially on the B2B payments as they'll charge 1.4% + 20p per transaction at their best rate, thats £28.20 you will pay per transaction on a £2k transaction. For over the phone payments you will need whats called a virtual terminal, which can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. You're given log in details to access an online portal, which will allow you to type in and process your customers card details. Most providers can provide this free with a payment gateway. feel free to make contact if you need further help

Hello unstoppable, a few questions for you:
  • Are you already in business?
  • What line of business are you in?
  • Are the numbers you give what you are doing or what you are wishing for?
  • If they are wishes, what are you currently doing and who is processing these payments?
Sorry for the third degree, but just need to understand a little better in order to tailor any advice.

Thanks for the advice. Yes already in business but it's a new business. The figures are based on projections, not what I do now. I did a bit of research and based on the advice given I found the world pay would be suitable option. I gathered that if I pay them £19.99 per month for the virtual terminal and for the payment gateway, I would still save due to their lower processing fees compared to the likes of paypal or stripe:

These are the rates I've been given:

Credit Consumer (%)
1.33 (plus 0.1% on Ecomm, 0.25% on VT)

Credit Commercial (%)
2.39 (plus 0.1% on Ecomm, 0.25% on VT)

Debit Consumer (%)
0.55 (plus 2.5p Ecomm, 14p VT)

AmEx (%)
4.00

Is that a good decision on my part?

Sorry, just want to get this straight. Are you expecting turnover of about £20,000 per month, but you are actually turning over a lot less at the moment?

What are you selling?

Not sure why you would want to have two separate payment systems for BTC and BTB, as suggested by the poster above. I use Sagepay and it does the lot. When a customer calls, you simply log into your online Sagepay account and enter the transaction manually. Sagepay is set up as a payment system on our website too, and it can also handle Paypal payments if you want to offer them as an additional payment method. Processing a business or end-user customer card is no different.

We've set up a system on our website whereby trade customers can log in and shop at their discounted prices, before going to the checkout and using Sagepay to settle. This is proving to be popular, and I like it because my business customers pay instantly rather than stretching to their allowed 30 days!

Someone will now come on here and say "yes but Sagepay is more expensive than blah blah..." but the fact is, cheapest isn't always best. You want a great service that works well, does everything to keep it simple, and that you don't have to worry about. We've been using Sagepay for some time now and it never gives us any problems, whatsoever. The online system is well known to be one of the best in terms of ease of use and reliability.

If you don't want to take my word for it, see their TrustPilot reviews https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/sagepay.co.uk
