Taking Card payments

Anyone know of a cost effective card payment provider/merchant services, it's a new restaurant opening in May and we're looking for a supplier. A new Start up so looking at the best deal poss.

Different to the original poster I'm already set up for online to receive card payments, I can also take card payments over the phone, however I'm not allowed to have the customer next to me and take their card details???

So I need a payment card reader for the occasional customer (couple of times per month, average transaction around £300 but can occasionally be much less) paying by card in person.

Most card reader providers seem to require a smart phone (don't have one) or tablet. I have a Dell tablet running Windows 8, it also have Bluetooth as does my laptop. (However it would appear the Paypal device is not compatible with Window devices).

I don't want to rent a reader, and I accept the transaction charges will be higher if I buy one. Also don't want another 300+ security questionnaire for my basic 2 man business running two laptops and a modem!

Any advise of who and what to run with please?

Are you looking to process face-to-face, over the phone, online or a combination of these?

Ask them to step outside and call you on their mobile
