What is the point of tags on blog posts when you add the title description and keywords to your all in one seo pack anyway?

Is it just a nice way to stuff keywords in or something?

It's more of a navigation thing really so you don't have to have a multitude of categories. They can be useful for keeping people on your site but don't have any seo value.

Not meaning to contradict but the tags are like a mini site map.
The briefly explain the main core of the topic. Now you can link to the blog with an authority of that term.

They are great way to get those extra keywords.. if your using wordpress there's an option somewhere so that there's an excerpt rather than the full post on tag pages..
