    Hello all,

My contract is up. At this point the plan was to switch to a mobile only sim and save.

But the issue is my phone is junk. Had constant problems with it and now looking at options to switch.

What's recommended? Buying a phone outright and getting a mobile only sim? Ay recommendations?

    Thanks

Buying a phone outright and going SIM only often works out cheaper, but check the deals you're being offered. EE in particular seem to offer fewer benefits (e.g. no inclusive roaming) and have speed caps on some of their SIM only plans. 30 day SIM only plans are often a lot more expensive than the equivalent 12/24/36 month plan, so you may still need to commit to get a good deal.

A lot will depend on who offers good coverage in your area. Where I live EE is the best option, however they are quite expensive so I use Lyca mobile who use the EE network. I pay £13 / month on a 24 month contract for 100gb data, unlimited calls and texts and roaming in EU + India.

Phone wise bought a refurbed iphone 11 outright

There are some good non contract sim only monthly deals (no ongoing commitment), it depends on where you make your calls to, and how much data you need. GiffGaff springs to mind, they run on 02 and offer unlimited UK calls/texts and 1gb of data (plus fair use roaming) from £6 per month.

    Appreciate it :)

Looks like it's unanimous. Buy a phone outright and find the best sim only deal.

I'm so out of the loop with phones. Where is the place to buy phones these days? Both new and old.
If you have a phone in mind, the best place to buy it is directly from the brand's official online store. It’s very convenient, reliable, and often includes free shipping. You don’t have to go for the latest model though unless you can’t resist new tech!

I would vote for giff gaff or iD but coverage was no good when we moved.

    Now on Lebara.

You can get way more data for that price. Use uswitch for offers.

We have always bought outright and used SIM only. We were on 3 but they racked up their charges so much we switched, like others, to an MVNO. We chose 1pmobile and it's been excellent for us both here in the UK and overseas. Reception great, costs good and customer service good too.

The 3 month discount was better than that through Uswitch when I switched a few months ago, and my wife more recently.

I would buy outright and look on the Amazon renewed or Cex as you get a good prices and warranty's, I have bought phones from both and got good deals, then a sim only with unlimited calls and texts. I don’t use much data and tend to take a MIFI with us for all to use if needed.
