Surrender of lease

We have recently bought a business and, though this was about 10 weeks ago, we are still waiting for the previous owner of the business to surrender her lease. She says that it is up to us to sort out with the landlord but we have been advised that it is between the landlord and the previous tennant and that we should not be included in that particular loop. We have our lease signed and are waiting to send it back to the landlords via our solicitor.

Just after a second opinion really so any help would be much appreciated.
