Hi, just wanted to know where i stand on a request to gain a statement of account for my financial year when a company is refusing to supply.
I have a membership account for a supplier who i use regularly, I have requested an annual statement of account and they have informed me they cannot and will not be able to supply. i have a few missing receipts so i need a statement to tally everything up before i submit my accounts but they are flatly refusing. I thought every company had to keep customer accounts for 6 years or am i missing something? they made me feel like it was a completely unreasonable request. can anyone advise?

Rather than a Statement, will they provide you with copy invoices instead?

Nothing to say they have to do extra work to give copies to you, you should have done better work on your record keeping i'm afraid

If you have ordered by email you might have all the relevent details there
surely its a simple 30 second job, i can run a sage report on a client in seconds on my sage line 50? i get asked for statements all the time.

my question i guess is from a legal point of view, can a supplier refuse to send a customers request of a statement? its clearly poor customer service to refuse but i didn't think they would have a choice not to send if requested??

I would think they might have to supply invoices but not necessary a statement. Maybe someone in the know will be along shortly to advise.

Did they provide you with any invoices at all or have you mislaid them and are asking for copies?

so to clarify, this is a national supplier. i buy from them in store, its members only and all sales getting assigned to my trade account number. i pay at time of purchase so have receipts but i've managed to misplace several hence why i need a statement just to tally those missing ones up.

if you can prove where you spent the money then you should be fine for accounting.

The moral of the story is be more careful with important documentation.

By law they ahve to provide you with a receipt, everything else is negotiable. If they ahve already provided you with a receipt then you are at their mercy.

If it is a national company then there is possibly no local facility to create what you are asking for as they tend to work in batches
