Summarising Course Notes

Hello you very wonderful and intelligent individuals that make up these forums. I sincerely hope everything is going well for you.

I was recently doing an Udemy online course about hiring staff and creating a job description, which i found very useful. I started summarising notes on the course and i realised i was doing it wrong as i was copying what the course said word for word. I note there is some aspects of the course which are not as relevant and some areas that give you step by step guidance on how to action something. Can i please ask how i should summarise the notes for this course, for instance should i kindly just write out the most outstanding or beneficial sections of the course in my notes? If anyone had any thoughts on this i would be forever grateful and thankful for your support with this.

It's very much a question of what works for you.

Way back in my college days, the most effective thing for me - by far - was the random jotting. Never on line. Seldom complete sentences and often illegible. Those jottings took me back and I could remember the context.

As soon as I tried to write them up, the context was gone and I was lost. That was surprising to others, who could only remember stuff neatly presented on a formal page.

I still have and use black & red books, full of meeting notes in similar format - when I dip in, I can recall the meeting and its content. The bullited write-ups are dull.

If you have already written in long hand go back and summarise in bullet points like this - then look back at it - if there are any bullet points you think "i don't really understand what that means" then write that out in more detail.

A job description should have
  1. job title
  2. main duties
  3. how it related to other roles
  4. location
  5. remuneration (inc benefits)
a person spec should contain

i am a bit like this - i remember visually so when doing recruitment and before it all computerised, i would say things like "we have a guy who would be great for that - cant remember his name, lives in xyz - look through the "tech support £25-40k file, there is red writing on top left of his cover in my handwriting"
