Shortly after I emailed and phoned 4 customers who had used us this week and asked them if they would mind leaving some feedback in an attempt to deter people from that review

That just about sums up the pointlessness of review sites :(

You bury a bad review by asking 4 people who you expect to write a positive review to go and add one.

I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong, but it just sums up how easily review sites are manipulated.

I understand what your saying but tbh if we never asked people to leave feedback they never would as people don't usualy think about it. We have pleanty who will write us emails thanking us etc but very little do they think about leaving it on a review site.
I still think the best one is freeindex as they monitor the ip addresses so people can't make up their own reviews etc but again it takes time to get people to leave reviews and with the amount of bad publicity with leaflet distribution reviews are very important for us.

I'm not saying what you are doing is wrong (well I am a bit, but everyone does it)

It's not even the fact that there are review sites that allow any old reviews that is so bad (well it is really), it's the fact they allow grading systems and rank by grade that really causes all the abuse.

what happened to just good old testimonials?

Frreindex is the best because they monitor IP's and say when they are the same, but it's also the worst because they order by number of reviews and count all the ones with the same IP numbers.

It creates an old boys club, you write me a review and I'll write you one.

The problem is, as long as these types of reviews are allowed to continue, you have little choice but to do what you do.
