i have just got a commercial kitchen 2 mins drive away from a secluded student village with 1500 hungry but often broke students. The plan is to offer a mexican food delivery service with mainly web ordering as they all have broadband. After asking around and with little competition i think mexican will be popular, chilango.co.uk is the sought of thing i'm talking about.

I'm looking for marketing ideas to target students, so be as wild as you like. The student village is in the middle of nowhere 6 miles from the uni town and is the only place i want to deliver to (atleast for now) so i can afford to give away food because it's so targeted.

1500 People sounds like alot , then you have narrowed it to people who like mexican food ! how many will that be ... 100 , 300 , 1000 ? , have you also considered how many holidays students have a year !

Anyways whatever you do ... maybe FREE garlic bread for signing up and providing their email addresses ! and or phone number ? ..make sure with such a limited market you have a quick way to contact em all ...so if you ahve having a quiet night you can text them all or email out a deal etc

As regards getting the message out ...simpy a case of flooding the common rooms , general space and if possible actual rooms with leaflets until they give in and start buying from you

mexican is going to be the theme, there will be other products, the problem with selling everything is it ends up being all average. Mexican gives me something to work on, to diffrentiate and people like it, tv adverts are full of mexican burrito kits and through research it keeps coming up time and again. i worked at pizza hut, and yes we did deliver quite a lot there, so do a lot of others like dominos and independents, too much competeition.

To order online they will have to register, giving address details, email, phone.

Some ideas:

- Offers, offers, offers. A students favourite word is free
- A gimmick - offering a Sombrero (branded of course) with certain meals - students may wear these
- Free drinks with food - Coronas, Margaritas?
- Cater for parties (birthdays etc)
- Use Social Media. Most students will be on it - be on Facebook and interact with students, be on Twitter, get students to submit videos on YouTube

Just some ideas...

Fancy dress is always a favourite with students so branded Sombreros is a definate winner. (good shout XanderMarketing) As are XanderMarketings other ideas.

I would stick with your mexican theme, I have just done some work for a Mexican restaurant and the demand is definately there but consider the business name, if your just targeting students use something that will appeal to them, you can always diversify the site later to the broader market.
