Hello, I set up a company in 1998 for my private work. The company hasnt traded since December 2011 and I want to strike it off as its no longer required.

I am the only director, shareholder and creditor. Assets are under £200.

I think I need the DS01 form which I must return to companies house. Do I need to inform any other parties such as HMRC or the company's bankers?

How long does the process take and do I need to file accounts for the current year 01-12-11 to 30-11-12?

thanks for your help.

It costs £10 and does take several elapsed months although you do not have to do anything during this time. Do make sure that you close the company bank account though.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I read the process takes about 90 days.

A couple of supplementary questions. Should I wait until the company is struck off before writing to the bank?

Do I need to contact HMRC and inform them?

Finally, regarding the terminology is there a difference between "dissolving a company" and "striking a company off"? In this case it is voluntary.

Many thanks once again.

You can take dissolving to be the same as striking off for your purposes. Close the bank account asap. HMRC can object to strike off but I doubt they will. Just apply and see what happens - I can't see any problems.
