Store Promotions. What Has Worked For You?

We have a client who is looking to run an April store promotion as it is the quietest month of the year for their sector and we are working with them to establish and market a promotion accordingly.

So, it got me thinking...

Can anybody feedback experience of in-store promotions they have done in the past which have proved surprisingly successful?

Also, has anybody embarked on any promotions that have failed miserably?

if your asking about in store, as a real store/shop
there is alot you can do, although it depends on the type of store

get a local celebrety for the day and tun some games & give away some prizes. Trolley dash seems to go down well in supermarkets & clothes stores

Treasure hunts around the store for teams to win prizes

if the weather is good some atrractions for the kids outside & in, face painting, a cartoon character, balloons, free food etc

at the same time promote the thing to death locally, offer some good deals, offers of the day, managers specials etc to draw them in & hope they stay & buy more at the same time
