I've just had a bulletin from business zone. I was attracted to the StartUp Britain 6 months on piece. It seems that they have been successful at raising awareness about their own organisation and the concept of start up.

What do people think of this organisation?

Are they offering anything new?

The people behind it; do they get paid? How much?

Or are they doing it for love? Or Kudos?

They seem to have a lot of sponsorship and coverage. Would love to see the figures on this.

It is just full of the big corporate political ass kissers trying to make some money out of it. Just look at the sponsors "deals" .Any figures will be twisted and I wouldn't trust anything they say.

Start Up Britian is just marketing smoke and mirrors with little substance there that wasn't there already

I think this sums it up:
On 8th July 2011 the final of a competition organised by the Marketing Agencies Association took place at the Hospital Club in London as part of the Start Up Britain campaign. Six finalists battled it out to win an outstanding prize - a year of free marketing support from Iris, the top agency in the UK.

The winner was a great little idea called "safetray" - Now 4 months on they have a website that ......er.....has a video on it. No details of the company (therefore breaking the law) and no details on how to purchase.

If that is the marketing support from a TOP MARKETING AGENCY, we are all in trouble

A pity as the idea is a good one and with DECENT marketing support, would do very well

Just because its a non profit, i don't think it stops people from getting paid, although in this case they may being doing it for love. Who knows?

I have often pondered on new businesses set up as non-profits; how do the founders justify setting their pay? Everybody needs to pay rent...

Not heard of many companies doing free work for love - at the expensive of paying customers (certainly as we are sinking deeper in a recession).

Very suspicious.

I heard that Oxfam directors get paid over £100K - so I stopped giving money to Oxfam.
