Hi there,
Im looking on advice of opening mini brewery. On the beggining i will just be making wine for local pubs, restaurants, and if things pick up i will move on to making home made beer aswell. Could anyone tell me and advice me on licenses if i require any , also what are the requirements for the licenses.

Thanks !

i just reed some info about alcohol duty rates. It states that for wine with volume between 5%-15% the duty is £225 per hectoliter... which means it is £2,25 per liter. That means its £1,57 per 0,7 bottle of wine?! Is that right ? If so it crazy !

Viperek,

Do you have any experience of making good beer or wine? I would think that a good product is what you need before considering the mass/batch production stage and selling.

Also I would think that unless you are a vineyard owner there would be less scope in the wine idea. Its not hard to produce good beer but wine is a different kettle of grapes.

I myself love beer and micro breweries and welcome any new artisans into the market :) :)

Thanks for You comment. I do have an experience of making a wine but not beer. Thats why i would like to start with wine made of grape juice contrencate. I should get a profit of around £40 per 5 gallons around 30 bottles. The idea is to target local pubs reststaurants and make a "house wine" for them. Maybe after year time if things go well start brewing "house beer".

I think you need to do your research with your potential customers now before you start and see what they are paying and buying for their house wines, i very much doubt you could compete on either price or quality with the low price end of the commercial companies

With beer its slightly different that many people just like trying home grown beers so totaly different market

Firstly, you won't be 'brewing' wine.

On a more fundamental note, as previously mentioned, have you looked into wine buying rationale? People tend to buy wine on region, grape and or label - very seldom on 'cheapest' (your only market here is students) Beer drinking is all together more robust and many buyers will make a whimsical choice just to see..
