Starting up in Fashion Distribution Online

Looking to start an online retail selling mainstream fashion. Tshirts, jackets, belts etc. Nothing out of the ordinary just yet and then lead on to manufacturing my own line which will be a bit more out there etc. Quality of merchandise from China? I’ve put a bit of a list together.

· What kind of experiences can i expect with manufacturers?
· Are these all based in China?
· What kind of tax implications does importing have?
· Can it be as simple as purchasing some clothing from China and labelling it yourself?
· Where are the best places to purchase wholesale fashion?

Currently following an online design course which will stand me in good stead when looking to manufacture my own. I suppose I’m just looking for a bit of advice really and if it’s definitely financially viable. Any advice would be greaty appreciated.

Not a business to enter in to lightly. There are many strong retailers in this sector and they are struggling. The competition run regular national TV adverts - does your business plan have this sort of marketing budget in mind?

Hi thanks for your reply. I am to keep it quite small to begin with and offering some high street labels but also including a new and exclusive brand which I'm currently looking at doing. The marketing will be mostly social media driven, Twitter and Facebook etc. My plan is to not get too ahead of myself, keep things in moderation and costs to a minimum. Any advice is greatly appreciated so thanks.
