Starting a 'Refurbished Golf Club' Website

Hello all,

I am currently in the early stages of setting up a website where I will be selling second hand & refurbished golf equipment. My thinking is that we will be able to provide clubs at a much cheaper price than somebody would pay for a brand new club from a high street store or online elsewhere. There are a couple of other people doing this but I am confident that I can do it better.

I just want to use this forum as a bit of a sounding board and I hopefully people can give me some tips, ideas and make sure I haven't overlooked anything

Make sure you do your keyword research and choose a brand name thats self explanatory.

If your planning on selling online, getting the look and style of your website will be crucial to making sure people feel confident in what their buying

I would consider making a big deal of returns policy as of course this may be quite an objection for most people buying second hand or refurb goods

You're going to need big photographs of products.

After all, most golfers are willing to splash a bit of cash for clubs, knowing they're in new condition. The worry with any used product in this category is "how does it look?"

I'd recommend extended descriptions, original product spec, closeups of the clubs from the grips to shafts and heads.

If you can manage to get any information from the original owner about the club, such as "this was my favourite 5 iron for those tricky 120 yard approachs on St. Andrews" it will add colour, character and charm to what could otherwise be an antiseptic business.

Given the sale personality would be what separates a site selling lost merchandise from the airlines and police auctions as compared to a previously owned and cared for with love website.

I think you have a good idea. The website content and design will surely play a big role. I'd advise to use detailed descriptions, zoom mode, gallery with photos from the golf club. Think about returns policy or, probably, add "Rent" opportunity. You may also create your own mobile app where customers will order equipment they want to buy or to rent. Provide free shipping and express delivery. After your website is ready, start with the promotional campaign to get people informed about your business.

good luck with things.. one advice - dont go kamikaze with google adwords - have heard too many horror stories of start ups going straight into it thinking its their road to success and then getting burnt because they didnt know what they were doing.
