Should we have a header alongside Forums, Blogs, Members et titled Starting a business

It would give the basic advice on how to start a limited company, duties of directors, shareholdings, and most of all the reasons why a shareholders agreement should be made and maybe a sample of area's that may be covered in the agreement

The reason for it being in the header is the shareholders agreement is mentioned so often in problems encountered by posters and placed in the existing forums would easily be missed

There is a section called “First steps to starting a business” or something along those lines but it’s rarely used

I like to hang out there to flog Start Up Loans.

@Chris Ashdown - that's probably a series of sticky posts, if someone cares to write it.

Don't kid yourself it will have any impact on the number of people who start without one though.

Your both right, but new members are unlikely to search for something, but may bother with something on the top line

Doubt it would help many but even a couple of people reading it may make a big difference to them down the line

The forum is great at giving advice after the events but not much good at giving good startup advice to those who have not yet started unless they ask a question first

There could be a whole range of items covered giving general advice

    Business startup basics
    1. Self employed or Limited company
    2. Shareholders agreements
    3. Consumer act
    4. GDPR
    5. Cash -flow
    6. Business plan
    7. Debt Collecting
To name a few possibilities, just a small explanation of each item as a sticky each written by a expert i that field

You would really expect every person contemplating starting a business, would buy a book on the subject for under £20 and understand the basics, but based upon this forum it is apparent that most just jump in blind

It's what our friend @The Byre will tell you is Dunning Kruger - apparently he had it in Germany or something.

Put simply, the state where you are too stupid to know you are stupid.

I like to add to more stages to the journey of the wise, which are

The terrifying point where you have learned a quite a lot, but still are still pretty clueless.

Then, the comfort when you realise you will never know everything, so surround yourself with people & resources who bridge the gaps.

I’m surprised, you know the crack - This is a forum, not a wiki!

Actually its what we or more likely , what Sift make it

We all have our own idea on what this forum should be, but constantly telling people this is what they should have done is after the event, where offering some solutions possibly preempts the problem and solves it appearing every few posts

You have just had a few days of problems posted on the forum , where better advice before you started may have given you more sleep with a better working arrangement

On a slightly different tack, the COVID Forum appears to be past its sell-by date too! - It seems to have drawn attention away from 'Business!' It has become a 'Snake Pit!' - For those who do not agree with a 'Clique' who have nothing else better to do!

Sadly I think it passed that about 2 weeks into lockdown.

Morphed from a whingefest about grants & loans to a long, rambling niggle match between about 10 members.
