Start Up Grants/Loans

Hi, A friend and myself are currently looking at getting a grant/loan to start our business idea. There seem to be 1000's of options out there.......a bit of a minefield really. The industry will be in construction, with the grant needed probably not going to total more than £4,000. Does anyone know of a good place to start looking?

Grants are few & far between, and generally relate to some specific contribution.

As above, you might qualify for a start-up loan under that scheme

Otherwise your options include:
Start smaller, within your current mans
Sell anything you can.

Depending on where you are... and if I was more experienced in this forum I might be able to find out... there are businesses out there, which specialise in providing loans to new / small companies. As part of this, they want to see (and will help you with) a business plan, include some mentoring and networking, and so on.

The only one I know is in Ipswich, and only operates in East Anglia. It is called Foundation East. But there are others. I suggest speaking to them, both to understand whether what they offer is suitable, and to get a referral to a different regional branch.

If you're going to apply for a StartUp Loan, it's worth having a look through different delivery partners and (if possible) talking to people they've arranged loans for, as the service and services you get can vary.
