Standard Paypal v Express Checkout Paypal

I am having another blonde moment but I can't really see the difference? They seem to cost the same - can anyone explain in laymans terms the difference as I'm not sure which is the better one to go for :|

Basically the idea is that when the customer leaves your website to make their payment on Paypal, you can pass all the parameters with the form such as order amount, customer name, delivery address, etc etc.

This saves a lot of time when the customer is making their payment as they dont have to enter all of this information twice. Therefore the benefit of the express checkout is simply convenience for the customer as they will spend less time having to make their payment.

This can be an important factor on some websites where some online shoppers abandon their shopping baskets because of the time it takes to complete the checkout process.

Google provide information on how to integrate with Paypal Express. Basically what you have on your site is a form with lots on hidden fields with the values that you are going to pass them with all the customers details. You just need to make sure that all the hidden fields have the correct names and correct values associated with them. you can probably even download an example and edit it if you need to which will save you time.

Hope this helps

You need paypal pro and this then comes with the express option chucked in.

£20 a month to start.

Express is harder to integrate because it is newish and so less systems and knowledge kicking around.

Get pro working then add the express when that is running correctly. IMHO.

weve been looking at this but cant get paypal to confirm that it will work with our site - they really pestered us wanting the application in by a certain date but the tech people wont get back to us despite sending emails & phone calls

we have now decided not to go for it as if there was a problem they could take as long to resolve it - which would be costing us business daily
alot of our customers dont like paypal due to problems not being resolved so we are going for a proper IMA

do let us know how you get on with it if you go for it

If it is for your dog site do you need express checkout. You may even be able to just get away with a standard paypal account then there is no monthly charge.

Paypal pro also comes with virtual terminal so that you can take orders over the phone or in person and then enter them. This may be ideal for your set up.

Just play down the paypal bit. Call them your secure processor where no account is needed and payments can be made just using any debit or credit card. I think for debit you may need the pro account.

PayPal stanndard charges no monthly fee - works really well with cubecart stores and IPN (instant payment notification by email from PayPal) and is a doddle to get going compared with PayPal Pro, which can be a bit buggy IMO
