Maybe, but even fewer could even consider buying a home or car without a job.
Having a job certainly won’t hurt their chances.
Taking on a crap job at 16 - 18 could

'Rumpole and the Confession of Guilt' was the 'Play for Today Episode' that launched a legendary series. Horace described the Prosecution Barrister (Magnus Piecan) as " . . . born at the age of forty, with a thorough knowledge of the Law of Torts!" - It matched the character perfectly! It is also an expression that I use also – Along with 'Young Fogey,' for the Rees-Moggs of this world! You have my deepest sympathy!
I went into Betty's Tea Shop when I was just a mere callow youth of 50 (some time ago now!) and saw that I was the youngest person in the place by at least 15 years - and yes, I am including the waitresses!
I swear, just being in Harrowgate puts 20 years on one! It's not a town. It's some sort of open-air care facility!
As for going right-wing as one gets older - the older I get, the more left-wing I get. Young people today are far too serious and worry about their careers and some of the poor dears even start saving for their pensions! Heavens to Betsy! That's giving up before you've even won the race!
Have some fun! Live life to the full! See the world! Get out there and rock!
All you have on this planet is time. They don't give you any money coming in and you sure as F don't get any when you leave - so stop fretting over money! Money is not real money anyway - it's all just silly tokens. Fugazi. Pixie dust. Numbers in a ledger. A silly and pointless human invention to enslave the feeble-minded.
And to get back to the original subject - who the F wants to be a tyre fitter anyway? What a waste of precious time, when a young man should be out there raising hell and having a good time!
Anyway, being a tyre fitter will not help you pull the ladies. They want autonomy in a man. They want to hitch their wagon to someone who is going to carve out his own fate and follow his dreams. They sure as hell do not want to get lumbered with a tyre fitter.
After the military, I bummed around the world and ended up for nine months running a kibbutz chicken farm in Israel - just me and half a million chicken and some young volunteers that came there for a couple of months. Some of the young girls who volunteered from all over the world were away from home for the first time and needed comforting.
I took it upon myself to comfort as many as I could - so much so that some weeks I was even excused clothing. Nine months very well spent!
We live in hope - but so many youngsters I get to meet (and in my business, I get to meet a hell of a lot) seem to have been born at the age of 40. They write serious essays about the future of the country and run about, doing good deeds for the elderly and worrying about the planet.
When I was young, I was a dreamer. And step by step, I made all my dreams come true. But we can only fulfill our dreams if we have a dream to begin with.
It's time for the young to throw that stupid iPhone away and forget FaceOff and My-Face and TicFace and InstaFace and do something sensible like learning to live and learning to dream. You only get to be young once and you will only ever regret all the things you didn't do!
What do they use the bath for?Staying in Yorkshire, ‘New House Models’ are offered in 2 Levels of Specification – ‘Working Class,’ and ‘Alan Bennett Class!’ For Alan Bennett Class, the Show House has a 'Sideboard' for storing Coal!
For 'Alan Bennett Class Purchasers' the Sideboard is used, but 'Yorkshire Etiquette' dictates that the coal is 'Washed' first! However, for 'Working Class Purchasers' the bath is used for storing coal! What do they use the bath for?
Sorry, I wasn't clear. What do the Alan Bennett Class Putchasers use the bath for?For 'Alan Bennett Class Purchasers' the Sideboard is used, but 'Yorkshire Etiquette' dictates that the coal is 'Washed' first! However, for 'Working Class Purchasers' the bath is used for storing coal!
Growing mushrooms! Actual bathing follows the Yorkshire norm of using the Belfast Sink in the kitchen.Sorry, I wasn't clear. What do the Alan Bennett Class Putchasers use the bath for?
When i was a student i worked on all the gigs at the uni, For 3 months i lived a 6 day week, staying up later and later until after the late night Sat gig and the get out i wasnt getting home until 7am, i would then need to chill for a while before i could sleep so i would go to bed at 10am and awake about 8pm, stay awake all night (hit man & her and Get Stuffed was late night viewing then) so I could make my 9am Monday lecture on European money & banking)Loads of all generations end up doing work they wish they did not. Having a dream and realising it are great, but for every success story there are thousands of failures.
How many bands have become bigger than the Beatles, the Rolling Stones?
How many action film stars have succeeded like Stallone?
How many artists earn as much as Hurst?
Most musicians are in an average band playing for pints, some of the better ones make a living etc. The same can be said in any career.
At least those Rita type husbands can buy a home and run a car, most of the dreamers cannot.
I see some of the lads I started with back then, they are your typical Rita's husband
Have you thought about offerin a couple of PT roles, that would attract older applicants that may be more reliable.Where have all the young people gone ? I have a trainee position for an 18 to 20 year old to learn the tyre trade working both in a depot and training up to working out on the road fitting after a year. I have, however, had very little response and those who have have either No drivers licence despite it being a requirement in the advert or don't want to work Saturday or Sunday. I started off as a trainee tyre fitter some 30 odd years ago and have built up to having 2 depots and 9 mobile vans but the younger ones today don't seem bothered about having a job. I am offering a permanent 40 hr week, not a zero hour contract job with a good rate of pay when trained £23-£25K for the job.
How are you all finding the job market with the younger ages
