Staff Profiles on websites

According to the many websites I visit for business research purposes, I can only conclude that
there are a lot of people with very 'healthy' lifestyles.
eg. John is keen on scuba diving, hill walking, taking part in marathons and swimming across the channel! (ha ha)
I'd like to see some more honest cvs like for instance ' After spending a gruelling 10 hours over a hot computer, commuting for an hour and a half to get home, theres nothing more John likes than to slob out in front of the t.v with a few whiskeys and a bar of chocolate'

But surely if it comes to light that the staff profiles on a website are bogus or at the least stretching the truth that would put someone off more? There is such a thing as too honest I suppose, but I'd rather work with someone or a company whose profile reads somewhat how the OP suggested. Maybe pretty it up a little though :p

The only reason we've refrained from staff profiles on the website at the moment is because it makes it way too easy for cold callers to get through the defences and clog up the customer services line.

Not sure how staff profiles on websites is "Time Out" but anyway.

For most businesses I don't even see why they bother having staff profiles. When I had the call answering service, people said I should have staff profiles on the site for the telephonists. As much as not really seeing the point (the majority of callers wouldn't know they are speaking to one of my staff anyway), the staff didn't want their stuff online.

The same with the audio typing, why do people need to know what a typist does in their spare time?

In fact, staff profiles seem to be mainly allowing cold callers and marketing people (like me) to get the details of who they need to contact before they phone or email. :)

Staff profiles, especially with photos, are often the most popular page. It's good to know a little something about the people you're talking, even if it's only what they look like. Our personalities don't seem to have clogged up the phone lines and I can't remember being asked for BBQ advice :)

putting up stuff like staff profiles shows an element of transparency in the way a company operates IMO and that can only be a positive thing. I dont understand why most people want to hide beneath a stone. People will always be interested in people........a business in nothing without the person or people..

I had a staff profile written for me without my knowledge. This was an accountancy practice. The statement was true, but not sure how it would have been received by clients!

It was “after a long week at the office John enjoys having a pint and playing snooker with his dad and uncles on a Saturday afternoon”.

I'm all for personality, and my About page gets loads of traffic, but you've got to try and stay professional.

It's something web design and marketing agencies seem to love - pretending that they just cock around all day playing table football. That might even be true, but if I think you're not taking my project seriously, I can't trust you.

And don't get me started on the habit of freelancers to say crap like "Writing copy in my pants" in their Twitter biographies...
