Squidoo - worth doing or not?

Anyone had any joy with Squidoo. I chanced upon this today, and wondered if it's worth spending a few hours adding 'a lens' to promote my site.

They are quite good. You have to write articles, add people, you can even include your business and or weblinks. You can earn too. I earned very little with them though.

Its just user generated opinion, and very general content too. It doesn't impress me, but like all these social sites, their popular due to heavy teenager input.

Probably wont work that well bcos its untargeted, and its not meant for business.

With any of these things considering it logically will give you the answer. Anyone can create a lens and point it at anything they want. Why would that have any value?

A friend of mine found it was a great help when she started selling books.. I must take a look and try it myself..

Well the amount of time you spend doing that site up, you may just as well put that effort into your original site......

Also take note that Google reportedly culled Squidoo pages quite a while back, due to extensive spamming on the site.

Tried it a while back. Forgot about about it quicker than the time it took to put up a profile!

Whats the whole purpose of it anyway are the links valuable? it sees more effort than its worth to me i was gonna start one time and i think i fell asleep.

It seems like its only for a certain type of site also

Yes i too have been wondering whether a squidoo lens or hub pages are worth the effort. I do notice alot of SEO services offering to create them, which leads me to believe they have some value...

Squidoo was used by spammers for a while, until google came down on them, They then introduced a scoring system - your links will be nofollow until you achieve a certain score, and once you achieve that score, your links become a fairly good dofollow.

In order to get that score you need a following, so unless you are prepared to actively market your lens, or buy one that is guaranteed to have a high score, it's probably a waste of time.

Also the audience tends to be north american orientated, so unless you're marketing to US/Canada...

Similar for hubpages.

Squidoo is really nice mini website for promoting the site. If your lens starts ranking then it will be helpful for you.
