Hi,

I co-own a sports bar in Chelmsford, Essex. We have been open for 6 months and have got off to a good start and with the world cup on the horrizon im optomsitic.

One area of our business I am trying to improve is our lunch time trade, I feel that the front of the bar doesnt scream "We're open" enough. Now that the weather should hopefully be turning, if some improvements were made to the front i feel that we could bring in more people for lunch.

I welcome any comments or suggestions you may have. I attach a photo of the premises.

- Doors Open
Good call, we have got these open now with some new door heaters, the weather has been a nightmare this winter which meant we simply couldnt have them open without upsetting customers.

- Canopy
Due to go up soon I hope

- Outside Dining
Still too cold to expect anyopne to sit outside, paid or unpaid.

you have a big brolley there - open it up, as it is closed, it suggests the premises is also closed.

Alternatively remove it whilst it's not opened up.

You have a big banner advertising Rugby, well, I'd remove that and put up a banner advertising your lunch deals - during the day, put the rugby one back after the lunch hour finishes

also, lunch needs to be quick and fast to attract office/shop workers with a limited break - so offer a set price set menu for workers lunches.

Music - obviously we can't see that, but you probalby have a top notch music set up indoors, pipe it outdoors too, though don't go over the top thumping house music, just something poppy that people will know and the music will make them look at the source of the noise

are there any local business near you - target these with some special offers - maybe 10% off - / a loyalty card - 6 meals get one free

Are there any local mums groups - have a look on netmums.com - maybe offer 10% off for first meal

Can you deliver lunches to local business

Special prize draws for lunch time diners

Once people start coming then it will be word of mouth

Are you anything to do with JB's (Joe Bannanas) in Hong Kong? I worked there on my travels in the 90's.

In answer to your question, promote yourselves with the local businesses, promise of delivering food in a time to fit in a lunch hour, offer great prices
