Tips to increase speed of PC

1. Use Good antivirus.

No it doesn't - if anything AV slows down a PC because it has to scan each file that is opened. AV is a necessity to stop virus and malware getting on which in turn will slow the PC down, but it certainly doesn't speed up your PC.

2. Increase your RAM.

This is possibly the biggest gain, but only if that is the bottleneck and not the CPU or HDD (adding 4GB to a PC with 16GB already won't make it run faster, adding 4GB to a PC with 256mb of ram will.)

3. Install only those software which you really needs.

Debatable. A lot of programs running at startup can slow down a PC booting, but after boot and the registry has loaded, as long as there is sufficient memory, you wont really see a gain.

4. Delete all cookies and TEMP files from your PC.

Temp files can be a good thing and actually help speed up what you want to do - especially internet cache files.

arrrggh can we just let this thread die... it was posted months ago!!!! The bad advice just seems to be getting worse. People just seem to spirt off what their mate told them down the pub.
