Specific banner feature in Magento - help please

I've got a Magento ecommerce site and currently the banners on the home page rotate at regular intervals. However I want to add something to the banners which lets you look at the banner you want to rather than waiting for them to rotate each time. Hard to explain but you can see the little arrow option on the John Lewis homepage by their rotating banners:

Apologies but I don't know what you call this but hoping you can help guide me to a widget that can do it in Magento!

I think what you are talking about is more commonly called a slideshow

allowing people to jump to a particular section of your slideshow is pretty easy.

there are quite a few slideshow extensions or as it sounds like you already have one, editing your current one to include this functionality should be fairly easy

Thanks for that. I should have mentioned that my web agency are looking into it but are taking ages so I thought I'd tried the forum.

Any suggestions for specific extensions would be great!

not really, to be honest its a really simple thing to do so we just throw them in ourselves, try this google search for some extensions:
