Sourcing from China? Good or bad experiences?

Hi All,

There's a lot of debate about B2B sourcing from China because of recent 'Quality' issues (eg Mattel toys) or IPR infringement & 'fake' products (eg Colgate toothpaste).

We're a British firm specialising in soucing from China for UK firms & so feedback from those at the sharp end is, of course, the most valuable - so I thank you in advance :)

Has your firm ever sourced from China?
If yes, how did it go/is it going?
If no, what are your major concerns & do you see your firm 'going direct' or using a 3rd party (e.g a sourcing company, such as ourselves)?

Any feedback would be great & help's us improve how we serve UK clients.

Thanks! Oz

It was a very good link to the Wholsale Forum and some great tips if anyone is thinking of having a go.
I think it depends on what you are going to trade if you are buying from outside Europe. In our business there has been a lot of trouble getting spares for Chinese refrigeration and questionable reliabilty from a couple of large manufacturers. Its no good buying the cheapest if its going to get you a bad rep.
I know someone else who imports trainers and is very happy with his set up and product quality.

I purchased from a Verified Supplier, 5 star rating, credit checked, and I got crap Media Players that are no good for nothing.
They only speak English when you purchase something, if you need support or your money back they don't speak English anymore.
Crooks
Global Sources guaranteed me that DIYOMATE is legit and hones supplier, but they didn't mention they have crap for sale, yet, they are a 5 star supplier.

sorry to hear that you have a such bad purchasing experience in China. Next time you can consider third party inspection company. We can go the factory to check the goods for you in any production status, then it will ensure the quality and reduce you importing risks. If you need more information, send me email: market06 at hqts dot com

Hi,
It's true 'Quality' issues, IPR infringement , 'fake' products exist in China, but i think they don't only exist in China. If it is so bad, there wouldn't be so many people import from China. The most import thing is that you should find your best supplier in China. If you have a fixed good cooperated partner, how can these problems exist?
