Hi,

My father has an EI system 5030 but there is no sound and I was told that it probably needed the driver. I have searched online but I cant find one.

Does anybody know where I can get one?

Thanks
Shauna

Hi Shauna,

That's a PC World "special" I believe. It could have one of a few boards in it and unfortunately the manufacturer does not have a website

The best thing you can do is download and install a trial of Aida - this wills can the system hardware and report what the actual onboard sound card is - once you have this info if shoudl be easier to find the actual driver. You can download a 30 day trial of Aida here:

Hi,

I ran DXDIAG and the following came up:

DEVICE:

Name: Modem #0 Line Playback (emulated)
Device ID: (Has nothing written beside it)
Manufacturer ID: 1
Product ID: 81
Type: Emulated
Default Device: Yes

DRIVERS: (all are blank)

Name:
Version:
Date:
WHQL logo'd:
Other Files:
Provider:

Under Notes:
Direct sound test results: Failure at Step 3 (Direct Sound Create): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by another caller)

When I go into the Sounds and Audio Device Properties under volume it says 'No Audio Device'

What does this mean? Is this even the information that you were looking for?

Thanks again for all of your responses.

Yeh that's pretty conclusive, beyond all doubt that you do not have any audio drivers installed, or that if you did they have become corrupted.

Can I ask if sound has ever worked on this computer in the past?

I should add that you likely have an AC97 PCI WDM sound card so if you search for drivers for this device then that should do the trick.

Hi Steve,

Which version would I download? Is it the AIDA64 Extreme Edition
Trial version, ZIP package?

Yes the sound did work on it, we just changed the monitor and moved it to a different location and it stopped after that.

Thanks

Hi Steve,

I ran it and printed a report. Do you have an email address I could email it to as this wont let me attach a file.

Maybe you can get it on this link:

file:///M:/DENNIS/Report%201.htm

Thanks
Shauna

Unless he has direct access to your harddrive he isn't going to be accessing that file any time soon :D

Can't you copy and paste the contents into a post?
