something is controling my laptop

Hi everybody i was writing a doucument a few days ago in word and all of a suden some music started playing out of my speakers and since then my laptop keeps shouting oh my god, it just played a tune for about 10 seconds as i was writing this..

I have just installed norton antivirus but it has not got rid of it.

I dont download music and i dont play cds on it.

Does anyone know what or who is doing this?

Please help as it is driving me mad and is a little scary.

But I know what you mean. I had a pc, about eight years ago now, and the CD opened up by itself - bloody scary!!!

Nothing is scarier than the 'Max Headroom Incident'. However, it does sound like something odd is happening with your computer. I would recommend installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Make sure you update it as soon as it installs and then do a full scan.

Just in the back of my mind, I think there may be a website banner that does something like this. Do you have any tabs open on your browser, so a banner may be out of sight? A banner could be cycling around and then generating the music and the sound periodically.

I didn't look at it, but I think that was the one I was thinking of. That buzzing one is annoying as well.

Do you have a wireless connection?

If yes is it secure. Seems to me someone could've got in and be playing a joke with you to alert you to the fact you are unsecure.

I did a similar thing to another business where we used to have our offices. I noticed they weren't secure (accidentally) and put a notepad document that automatically opened when they booted up. It just said something like "I'd get your wireless connection secured if I were you". After 2 weeks they still hadn't secured it, so I went into their database took a record added it to a notepad file and had it open when they booted, with the same message (btw the info also included credit card details).

4 weeks later and we were moving out and they still hadn't secured it, so I copied their database to CD (triple backed it up and actually hid it on their server) and deleted the main file on their system. I then went and stood outside their offices and listened (lots of f'ing). I pushed the CD under the door with a friendly note. 15 minutes later it was secure.

I did own up on the day we actually left and the MD thanked me, he said he had been advised my gentle prodding was nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your help guys, i tried your idea rob but it didnt work, i then tried system restore to a point in time that i didnt have the problem and that didnt work i then downloaded a update for windows defender and then did a scan and it found 4 malware programs and deleted them. Its now 4 hours and so far it has not come back.

Going to sound funny this but.....

Were you on a web page at the same time?

There is an advert on loads of websites for smiley face downloads of somthing, when you cursor moves over the ad it shouts "Oh my God" "NO Way" back at you.

Very annoying.

Am I mad or has anyone else see this ad?

May i suggest you backup your data every day?

A bit off topic, but backing up your data can save you thousands in recovery fees. Download some software that does it for you! Easy peasy
