Some pages won't get indexed

Hi there

I run a property website which is still fairly new. The site has over 5000 pages in total. And some of the deeper pages are still failing to get indexed by Google.

We have undertaken lots of SEO for the site, but for obvious reasons building a link for each of our 5000 pages is difficult to do. Has anyone got any tips to help increase these pages getting indexed?

If you are looking to build links by every page then social bookmarking is the best way to do this. You can submit many link on single account but notice that only share links per account in a day.

Pages don't have to be deep. Why not create 5 pages of 1000 links and link to them from the footer of your home page, each link is only 3 clicks deep then.

That won't help, and will just look spammy. It will also wreck your ability to properly flow link juice into pages you consider more important.

If you have a new site then Google just doesn't think its worth indexing 5000+ pages of your site yet (assuming of course there is no navigational issues, and Google can actually see them)

Do these 5000 pages have unique / worthwhile content on them? If its all mostly templated and / or already on the net elsewhere, then Google isn't going to be that interested in it. And even if you force them to index it... there is a world of difference between indexed and ranking.

If you build up your domain authority, Google will be more likely to index (and more importantly, rank) more and more of your content.

Personally I would not take alexcooper advice... spamming social media with 5000+ internal urls on a brand new site is a horrendous idea. Just make sure the pages are good quality and start legitimate link building and things will sort themselves from there.

One issue I would look at though, is do you need 5000+ pages in the first place? Thats a large amount... unless you get the domain authority to support that you could easily just march straight into a penalty/filter. You would be better to have 500 or even 50 good pages, than 5000 bad ones.

What is spammy about creating pages that are like html sitemaps, listing every page on the site, so the urls can all be found easier by search engines and probably be beneficial to users?

If you are worried about leaking link juice to those pages you could always no follow them, google will still follow the no follow link to see what is on the page. Although there might still be some reduction for the no follows but i think people can only guess about stuff like that.

The links to the pages don't have to go into the footer either really, they could be worked into the main nav if it is possible.

OP... ignore this crap advice and make sure any pages on your site are decent quality. If they're not good then revert them back to drafts or delete them for the time being. And work on increasing the links coming into your site.

It wouldn't be completely pointless making them no follow as the op's problem in this instance isn't about juice flow it's indexing.

But i wouldn't no follow them myself.

I think it is ludicrous to suggest that pages set up with the intent of providing users with indexes and make the site more crawlable 'is spammy'.

Google want people to make their sites more crawlable which is why they offer so much advice on the topic.

1000 links on a page is spammy, 100 isn't.

If your internal link structure is set up properly you shouldn't even need a sitemap.

Without looking at the site, it's hard to tell why.. but I would check all the pages aren't hidden behind a drop down form

Thanks everyone so much for your response. It is really really helpful. Our site is called Buy Sell Rent Spain.. You should find it under a Google search of that name.

The issue is we want to offer clients a quite precise search through the site. Here is our page flow, using Barcelona as an example -

Property in Barcelona
Apartments in Barcelona
3 bedroom apartments in Barcelona

It is that last level that isn't getting indexed. Barcelona is probably a bad example as those pages were added only yesterday. But you can understand my point.

I can only presume the deepest pages aren't being indexed because of the lack of properties listed on the site just yet. But then again how we can entice buyers to the site with poor rankings. Proper chicken and egg situation.
