Sole Trader and Virtual Office

Hello,

I'm looking at setting up a business (Sole Trader) with HMRC Online but I'm renting my current property and I can't use my address for for business purposes... so can I use virtual office address for the registration with HMRC?

We rent virtual offices - mailing addresses. People think they can use our address as their trading address or 'principal place of business' when they register for VAT with HMRC. They can't.

HMRC want to know where you are physically operating from. They may wish to visit you. This isn't your virtual mailing address.

You can use an address like ours for ordinary business correspondence as a mailing address; where people can write to you. Including HMRC.

For Virtual Offices I recommend CITIBASE. I've used them for years with other businesses. If you've got an accountant, they may let you use their address? And for a telephone answering service, I've used AllDayPA for years and always been happy. As others say, HMRC still need to know your rented residential address, though.
