Hi all,

I have recently setup social media accounts for my company and am learning all about this type of internet marketing.

I felt that I can share what I learn with you guys at FBF!

I am using LinkedIN, Facebook, Twitter and will be starting a kick starter campaign soon.

It is very early stages buy I'm reading books and talking to pro's.

If you have any questions feel free to post them here and I will try to reply

My approach for the moment is just to build momentum. Talk about things that I know and what I have learned. Also talk about the same 'topics'. i.e. my tool is all about organisation of files on Windows PC's. So I talk about organisation, and post links to similar information.

Over time I want the brand to be respected when it comes to Organisation, search, retrieval, technology etc and gain visibility due to this reputation.

To Neil: Yes, when I find time I will be creating a product video. To begin with I might use a simple tool like this one:

Computer Conquest, building an online presence through social media is a great way to market your business especially with an engaging video such as the example you shared.

One thing I would point out, when it comes to video take the time to decide on the best platform to get the best ROI on your video.

I think that when your using video, if you can somehow make people laugh and brighten up their day, in my experience its a shoe in for going viral.
Also facebook ads have been great for me to gain momentum with likes. I started with a small budget and using this formula
  1. grab their attention
  2. ask a question that hits a nerve
  3. And then deliver the solution
I managed to make it go a long way and I simply use attraction marketing to build value with the people who have already liked the page. I get plenty more likes from organic views and sometimes sharing.

I think there may be a misconception in that all online business videos need to be humorous in order to be success. YouTube is partly to blame for this.

I am interested in gathering thoughts on what people think of YouTube as a destination for business videos. Should we be considering alternative more professional platforms?

With regards to Facebooks ads, I too have used them and they've proved to be very successful in boosting my companies page like.

Videos need to be tailored to the audiences. Humor is a good way to get it to spread but if the audience isnt interested they probably wont watch long enough to get the to hilarious joke.

I created some basic videos last year for a product of ours. The product is no longer being sold (as we are needing resources for Rummage!) but I would be happy to get your feedback!

Also to stay on topic, I am reading "The business of being Social" good book, good start guide to those wanting to delve into Social Networks for marketing activities.

Hi,

Before you start a campaign, decide your preliminary goal at very first-
There are three criteria that you need to look at when you've decided to go for social media marketing-
-Raising awareness,
-Increasing sales,
-Increasing loyalty.

Based on a target mentioned above, set your channel/vehicle to convey your brand message.

Thanks.

When i was starting in internet marketing i asked my coworker, who was way more advanced in SM marketing, what i should read up on twitter. He said the best way to learn about twitter is actually start a twitter account. Follow this tip. Stop reading and start doing!

I would personally recommend not buying likes, that other companies may do, but instead engage with people. On Twitter it is easy to find new followers if you look in the right places. Use the search bar!!!

Make sure you have links to your social media pages from your website and email address :)

I just watched the attached video, great if you have that kind of money to invest, which I'm guessing you don't and full credit to the guy's who made it.

Your time and money is well spent on what has been said earlier, learn by doing. I work with people now that they have reached the point that the phone rings for them not them ringing us. This market is getting bigger by the day, I have been shocked as to how many people are making money in it.

I have been using the built in search feature for Twitter.

For example, I'm interested in people that like free new software. So I can search #free #software. That shows me people that are talking about these subjects. Give it a try!

Otherwise, I have paid for a subscription for www.twilert.com. This is a great tool. A bit like Google alerts but for twitter. Create keywords to find people that tweet about them and get emails sent to you everyday.

In my case alerts for "Windows search tool" or "file organizer" are really useful.

If this thread is still alive I would love to hear from people that want to share their social media experiences!

Just to add to these tips.

I am now using Buffer and Tweriod.

Buffer allows you to, well, buffer your posts. So you can schedule a tweet or retweet for a later date/time. This allows me to do lots of twitter stuff without having to post it all at the same time.

Tweriod allows you to see, on average, when your followers are online. So you can use Buffer and Tweriod to post to specific people at specific times

good luck

Budgets vary and this affects what can be done. a video can be created simply or be quite expensive to produce. One thing for sure, a video will grab your audience attention if part of a targeted campaign and not going after broad reach. A video shown in a fun way to the right audience will hold their attention and extend your influence in that market.
