Hi Guys,

Like the rest of you all I hear about is social media sites like twitter digg and many more. Can someone please tell me the value of the inbound links if you cannot use descriptive anchor text links or is it just for the traffic that the site will send your way?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Mobiletechnology,

You are right in thinking that the text of an inbound link is important, it tells search engines what your site is about. Ditto for the content on the page that is linking to your site.

Even if there's no descriptive text anywhere you'll still get the benefit of the inbound link. One thing to watch out for is the 'rel' attribute on the link. If it's set to 'nofollow' then google will not pass any page rank along to your site at all.

As for traffic, almost any link that increases visitor number is a good one. Are you running Google Analytics to see how many of your visitors are coming from social sites?

Inbound links will determine your site's popularity on the web. If you have a lot of friends then you are somewhat famous. Be sure to use correct anchor text because this will hint the crawlers what your site is all about and from that it will increase your ranking.:)

initially,i was doubting twitter for inbound links and traffic but lately i have seen some positive results, lots of traffic and inbound links.

However, spammers have done some damage on my forum. So you have to watch out for those too.

As mentioned in the other posts social media links will count as inbound links to your site so it's definitely a benefit for any site.
Search engines are also displaying blog/forums/social media sites in their results pages so they should also bring you increase in traffic
