My Site has been running for nearly three years and we have had disastrous results and problems every since the start.

For one reason or another we have had to change platforms three times and now are on Magento Community.

Our bounce rate is running at 59%

we have countless 404s which we have just redirected them all manually but more keep coming

I know our prices and site are good so cannot work out whats causing high bounce rate

I signed up for 6 months which cost £3k with the Search Marketing Group. i have been underwhelmed with the support and results and we have 0 to show for the work and money other than a load of reports that show "improvement" but no really tangible result or increase in visitors or sales.

We have another site that performs very well, and before we moved to magento this site had very low bounce rate aswell.

So where next, i feel ripped up deflated and angry..

I have just started with adwords campaign which has started to generate sales, so when the website gets some exposure its doing ok.

can someone recommended an SEO company we can trust and work with. I have the money, it just needs the right people. there are just too many variables for me to dedicate the time to research and solve. not enough hours in the day

Hi, Please please please stop throwing good money after bad, we need to look at the root of the problems and this often the website itself, if you paid £1million pounds on advertising it would make no difference to your sales if your website is missing certain thing in the first place

To be under selling and then invest in £3K worth of SEO I feel you may have the equation all wrong, please feel free to PM me your website and I can come up with some possible solutions to look at

I second that, if you know that your website is underperforming then spending money driving traffic to it is a waste. The best case scenario is that you increase your traffic, but you will still be losing visitors and therefore sales.

It's a bit like pouring water into a bucket that has holes in. Fix the holes first and you won't need as much water.

So anyway, where I would start is by looking at your traffic and how it is interacting with your site. Checkout crazy egg and get some heat maps for your key pages. You should also try to get some user feedback. Here are a few helpful tools to consider:

http://usertesting.com
http://feedbackarmy.com

I don't have any affiliation with these tools other than that I find them really helpful for my job :)

A high bounce rate usually means that your website is difficult to use / not obvious what to do or that users just aren't interested. Hopefully some feedback from first time visitors will help.

Try to draw conclusions from each peice of feedback and make notes. Look for common themes and hopefully you will create a list of ideas for things that you can change.

Finally, don't just blindly implement changes, run a split test and see if any of your ideas produce a better result - that way you will know if you have improved your site or not.

Once you have had some successes, if you do pursue further SEO it is likely to be much more effective because you will be SEOing a better website, so it's potentially a win-win.

Hope that helps.

Magento can be a complex system which many companies don't know how to work with, you'd benefit from an ecommerce specialist that knows how to optimise well in Magento. Everything from filter URL's and customisation, indexing /robots declarations, URL rewrites and redirecting will all play a crucial role in how the pages on your website perform. Once this has been sorted for optimal performance, then consider why inbound traffic is not converting. Once that is sorted, then look at ways to drive more targeted traffic. All in that order.
