Hi, if anyone has a few years retail experience I wondered if you can shed some light on something please?

Im thinking that I need to be prepared for it to be very quite on the high street when it snows. Then again maybe local people will just stay local as they don't want to travel?

What are your experiences please?

Typicaly its at least icy around christmas but people tend to go out to do christmas shopping, but if it snows in October it could be a different matter.

Any advice appreciated

Thank you

Snow kills trade, unless you are a supermarket in which case be prepared for the panic buying when the first flake falls!

There's not a lot you can do about it really as people just don't come out, partly thanks to all the over the top reporting and "don't venture out unless it's essential" news articles.

However, if it's prolonged we tend to find after a week/10 days or so people do start to venture out again.

Saying that, there are ways to turn it into a positive, and last year we got some decent radio, tv and paper coverage. Didn't help sales so much but great free advertising. Not saying what we did on a forum though otherwise that usp will be gone!!

As long as the council, clear the roads into the town, unlike last year, i'm happy with snow.

Bit of cold weather, maybe interest some men into buying nice wool/cashmere coats, along with the nice selection of gloves and scarfs

Yes I thought as much, but thought with all the warnings then maybe local people would just stay local and venture out on foot.

Will have to wait and see I guess. We are a vintage shop in Lichfield and been open 3 months . We will have to put our thinking caps on ready then.

Thanks for the input. I know you have to look at the year as a whole and we hope that christmas with all the partys will more than make up for it in the not so snowy weeks.

:)

Yes got lots of nice woolies and coats in ready. There is always some reason for quiet weeks...snow, rain, football, sun and people go out for the day, middle of month no money lol.

EEk , well doing ok anyway so as the saying goes..save for a rainy day . Thanks peeps
