Hi.
I'm an Occupational Therapist and am interested in submitting articles to some smaller, local parenting magazines. So far, I've used NCT and Families magazines. I have also found The Family Grapevine.

I live in London. I'm looking for magazines in Greater London and Surrey (croydon, sutton) and Bromley, Kent areas.

Any suggestions? Online or hard copy magazines / newsletters are fine.

Thanks.

If your hoping for paid commissions OP you will find that difficult and the rates are so cheap it beggers belief as far as a genre gees like £50 quid for a 500 word article. I know a few well published authors don't bother. They earn more to a Letter to the Editor at £25 quid a pop to help pay the winter fuel bills.

Tou might try a different angle however. Try a few of the American mags highlighting the difference in parenting here and there. There is a big controversy over breastfeeding here at the moment and when to wean off to solids.

Thanks Rob. Doing it for free as it seems to be working better than advertising. I'm writing moreso about motor and sensory development, special needs topics, etc. I tried advertising but didn't see any profit from it so trying this avenue.

If you Google Baby/parenting magazines and then the area you will find details of quite a few of the publications online ie ABC Parenting Magazine Surrey, Surrey Baby etc

And yes pitching articles on topics that demonstrate your expertise is a good way to help build awareness of your services and your own personal credibility with your target audience.

Do get hold of a copy of the publications you want to target (or look at them online) to get a feel for the publication and an understanding of what sort of stories to pitch to them.

Many work on quite long deadlines, so take this into account when suggesting stories that may link to a particular event, awareness day or season.

    Good luck
