Hi,
Hopefully somebody knows the answer to this, as even my own local authority who charges us the business rates doesn't seem to know! So, I'm moving into a property that previously qualified for small business rate relief (rateable value of £13,000), however, they never applied for this. Following the new valuations that took place, the property now has a valuation of £16,750, and hence has lost the small business rate relief. There is a transitional period until 2025 meaning that the amount the business rates go up is capped as a percentage increase if you had small business rates relief/
So here is the question - can I move in, and apply for the transitional relief when the former tenant never had the small business rates in the first place?
