To misquote the Fat Controller from Thomas the Tank Engine

"There are only two ways to run a telephone company, the Voipfone way and the wrong way."

If you're still active here in 12 months, you may send me a quote of your own ;-)

A certain part of the musical "Annie get your gun" comes to mind.

Sir...it will be my pleasure to follow-up with you at that date.

P.S. If the reference to the musical was too subtle, please let me know and I can elaborate...because you know...we care about people here at AstraQom and want to make things easy for you. ;)

For non confidential i.e. sales types calls it can work very well but the quality can be poor and on some systems your call shows up, even with number withheld as International call so is barred. Its a good system for a 2nd option but not a first choice for the problems mentioned.

I've been using it since 2012 as my landline phone system. It has been excellent, plus, I've used it to record interview style video/audio screencasts with work associates. I'm very pleased with Skype.

When I started up in business, I was unemployed and money was none existent.

I tried to set up a free phone system based on Skype called "SipGate" but I could never get it to work.

I'm glad to pay the money to Skype for the SkypeIN number, and then I buy phone credit which I use to make outgoing calls. Be warned though, it costs a lot to call mobiles, so in those circumstances I just call from my mobile.

In response to those raising the issue of call quality - I find the quality is severely impacted when I have lots of other programs running on my computer.

If you keep other applications running in the background to a minimum, things are not so bad.

Of course, Skype depends entirely on the internet so I've been pretty peeved when VirginMedia has dropped out (which has been a lot lately).
