Skype In

On advice of forum members I recently purchased a new skypeIn phone number 0207 871 1414 for anyone thats interested/

However I am not very impressed so far with the quality/ clarity of the line.

From my computer end the sound is quite clear, but from the incoming caller end (the customer) its not clear at all, with a lot of fuzzy noise and echo's.

I currently use a headset with a microphone.

Any advice / ideas on improving the sound quality?

I have the same issue - skype them selves admit theres a quality problen - undoubtably it will improve or they will be out of a market shortly!

I don't think a different phone will help.

However, I have heard that a router that supports QoS will help - certainly with VoIP in general, and perhaps with Skype in particular.

Interested to hear whether anyone hear has any specific comments on that though!

I have a USB phone but I don't consider the skype in/out to landline quality acceptable for customer use.

Skype to skype using it is perfect.

I use www.voipfone.co.uk inbound and outbound and its working fine.(Touch wood).

I only use SkypeOut, and almost exclusively for international calls. I thought about SkypeIn, but while I'm generally happy with the SkypeOut service, I find it's a bit "iffy" on a small percentage of calls (5% ?), meaning I need a fixed-line back up just in case.

I wouldn't mind so much if it just plain didn't work, but it half works, causing more pain. The two biggest faults are it ringing someone (who answers), but no sound either side, and the poor quality of the line in both directions. I'd rather it just said "Error! try again later" rather than have an aborted call. It doesn't seem to be number dependent, although there are some numbers that never seem to work.

My reasoning is that for very important calls, I'll use the fixed line, and for others I'll use SkypeOut. With SkypeIn, I couldn't control this. The exception would be for forwarding to mobile phones to cut down the ridiculuous international call rates, but I'm not sure if that's feasible or available.
