Hi,

There are many ways to advertise your business and in turn there are many skip hire firms around - you need to make yours stand out from the crowd!

Firstly how big is your firm? you don't want to take on massive amounts of work if you can't honour it! thats a sure fire way to shoot your business down in the eyes of the customer.

Secondly, how big is your advertising budget? there are plenty of cost effective ways to market your business but its always useful to know what you have to spend.

Cheers

Skip hire companies used to be the bain of my life when landscaping. Top tips to become the most requested company.

Drop off when agreed
Pick up when agreed
Supply your own lay off boards so you don't trash driveways...as landscapers cannot always be there when the skip arrives.

That's it it ain't difficult, big or clever and I guarantee you a life time supply of work. We used to pay a broker extra just to have the first two of the above taken care of, but her service went to pot as she became ill. Used to drive me mad.

From our experience in Alistair's business (clearing houses) private individuals now are reluctant to hire skips because of the rules & legislation re putting it in the road, flashing lights & cone, some councils require licenses, etc.

I don't know if this is your experience assetman, where does most of your business come from b2b or b2c? because they need totally different marketing techniques.

Hi

What is your core business and what area are you looking to go in? Is it Joe Public that hires your skips or is it Big Timer Builders Ltd?

If it is the later then you could use promotional products to advertise to them. You can find out who is responsible for arranging the skip hire write them a letter introducing your company and send it in with a promotional gift, something like a Skip shaped keyring, coaster, notepad.........

If you need any help let me know

A great way to get MASSIVE EXPOSURE is pitch-side advertising at sporting events. I am in charge of the 20/20 cricket and Rugby superleague, advertising this way gets exposure to around 3 million viewers as it is seen live on Sky sports and for around £6000 its dirt cheap. get intouch

cheers

I would go for the basics of having company logo and telephone number on the skip, you might get a few angry calls, but you will get a fair few enquiries. After all companies pay huge amounts for billboard adverts. Quite strangely having an articulated lorry clamped in central London is cheaper than renting a billboard........

Just try not to.....Knock over walls, dent expensive driveways, leak oil everywhere, knock on my clients door at 7 o'clock in the morning demanding payment when I am an account customer. You'll be onto a winner!!

Don't worry about the pick up and drop off being on time, just take one step at a time don't wanna run before you can walk, just try not to break anything!!
