Simple Labelling solution?

Seems simple enough - labeling - something I need to do as cheaply as possible. Just a simple label. We'll I bought a expensive laser printer thinking this will be up to the job but it can't handle the printer paper with sticky labels and gets jammed. Also the dimensions of where to print the label centered are incorrect. Office told me 6cm down so I measured it and it comes out several centimeters off accuracy anyway :p I have had inkjets in the past as they are like disposable things because its cheaper to buy a new one when they are so cheap than replace the ink cartridges lol but do i really want to be causing that sort of environmental damage? It seems absurd... Anyway annoyed my expensive laser printer won't print adhesives. i just need a really simple labelling solution, black n white but for some reason its become far more complex than it should be. I search google and theres a million diff products but many are tricks and you end up having to buy their expensive ink or paper etc as they are not compatible with others or generics. The simplest issue becomes a minefield. I'm sure someone else has had the same problem so my question is whats the best fix? I can just hand write them but customers complain - they want printed labels so it looks "professional" lol :p

It depends on the quantity you need but I'm surprised your laser jams - most have a special "straight feed" path to get over that issue.

Ink jets - look at the Epson WP range. More expensive to buy initially but the refills are economical.

Brother label printers can be good - just make sure you know the cost of cartridges.

OK i'll look into the suggestions thank you guys. I'm surprised too tbh I paid well over 3100 for this brother laseer printer thinking it would be top qual and I've not been impressed at all. Even the toner on it has been a complete scam, they set it up so you can't use anything but their rip off toner cartridges and it doesn't even use the full catridge - it simply counts how many pages you print then tells you to buy a new one as opposed to using the full toner. Complete scam but luckily people found ways around it online and I've been refilling my own but its not easy and you have to know the system codes to reset it so it works.

You want one of these: a brother QL label printer Cost me about £40 (inc VAT) and I think I bought a box of 800 labels for £8(ish). You don't need any ink or toner.

Brilliant! Have just produced 400 address labels for our latest catalogue drop - its pretty simple to import the addresses from an excel database and format them for printing.

No need to worry about lining things up in Word (I know exactly what you mean, OP!) - it just works!

Have also used it to print out some generic labels as well - it prints, I think, to 300dpi, its easy to import images, clip art etc.

With my children, we timed a biggish print run of labels, I think it worked out at about 2 labels a second.

Nice and small, so I keep my in a cupboard when not needed, just plug into the mains & a USB port and off I go when necessary.

A great bit of kit just does its one task really well!

I think sorting the system you have is a better idea than replacing it!

What printer did you buy?
What labels are you using in it?
What software are you printing them from and for what purpose?

With that info we can advise on where its going wrong and get it sorted, i'm unaware of any label printer than CAN'T print on labels, you just need the right ones and alignment can then be sorted too.

Do you actually need labels? Can you use documents enclosed pouches.

They cost about £10 per 1000 and you just print the despatch note / invoice, fold & insert.

With my e-commerce business I ditched label printing after the first week.

(p.s. I've got Zebra thermal label printer, I must put that on e-bay soon :) )

+1 for that. I bought one off Amazon for our delivery address labels. I get all my blank labels from there too.

Fast, cheap and hassle free - can't ask for more in life than that.
