New to this - Some simple questions for a newbie. Appreciate some help.

Looking to set up a small business by myself.

1. How much money can you make before you have to pay tax on profits per week/month and year.

2. Can you set up website without registering in company house. Why should i register if I am not making profit - just a simple test case. If I start making money - then i guess i can register for tax and company house.

3. How much does website set up cost - simple selling? Whats involved - I want to pay somone do do it? What are the simple rules i.e. does the designer handel everything from making sure you websit appears on google list. I sthere anything that the designer does not handle?

4. Can you buy stuff from another country that another company has designed and sell. What are the rules. What if i just wanted to buy a toy for example from say china - like something standard.

5. How does e-bay selling work - can you sell stuff e-bay that you have bought - a small business. do you need to register a company name or can you simply sell?

Many thanks,

G

If it is a sole trader company, I believe this may help:

Anyone is free to start a sole trader business when they want. If you want a business bank account and a business name that is somewhat protected then you should register with Companies House.

This varies considerably and the price will depend on the originality and effectiveness of the solution. Normally, everything is handled by the developer, including search engine submission and design, etc. (subject to your approval of course!). I would normally develop a website from a price of 1500 pounds, which, at the lower end, would be a website based on an open-source robust template and modified intensively to your requirements and needs.

4. Can you buy stuff from another country that another company has designed and sell. What are the rules. What if i just wanted to buy a toy for example from say china - like something standard.

This is a little complicated. You are free to buy from another country but depending on the product you may need a license to sell in the UK for example. You may also be subject to minimum orders and import tax, etc.

5. How does e-bay selling work - can you sell stuff e-bay that you have bought - a small business. do you need to register a company name or can you simply sell?

You just simply sell!
