Hiya Folks,

I've had to let one of my subbies go. Not his fault my contract wanted to downscale his area. He retired from the police early and gets his old age pension next month. He had a car crash 18 months a go and his wife had wanted him to retire ever since.

Anyhow I've worked with this guy for 7 yrs and he's subbed for me for 3 yrs.

Should I get him a present or is that like a kick in the teeth.

Cheers

Without hesitation YES!

Would be a good indication of not only your previous working relationship, but of anything he might pass your way in the future via contacts...

Plus if he was Job for a while then retired, he needs a little pick me up!

Get him something for his age group and something he can actually use or get enjoyment from!!!

Try another member (who is on dragons den tonight!) products as a gift, they are bloody brilliant...

Cool, I got a 12 year old signature on the go at the moment, I was given a 21 year old a long time ago, but that only comes out once a year. A little sharpener before Christmas dinner!

I've only ever had it in hotel bars. Been meaning to buy myself a bottle. At the moment I'm going through a BenRiach 12 year and a BenRiach 16 year. Both fairly low priced but nice malts.

Appletons rum, produced in Jamaica is a very nice rum, and not cheap, you can get it here I believe, google it. When we went to Jamaica we toured the Appletons refinery - absolutely 'drunk as skunks' by the time we left and I purport not to like rum- Whiskey for me!

Seriously, its not a retirement present, its a 'Thanks mate, for being there, for being you' present - put a Thank you card with it, not a retirement card - people like being 'thanked' - makes you feel apprecaited, and that your effort was appreciated :)

Buy him a voucher for a nice local restaurant and stick it in a card with a note saying thanks for all your hard work, done.
