Should I buy a new 'phone direct or via a retailer?

I am a happy user of an iPhone 4. I am a very unhappy customer of O2; whose coverage is awful round here. The good news is that my contract has just expired; so I'm looking to move.

Vodafone is the only reliable carrier around here, so that's a given. I have two questions however:

1. Buy a new iPhone 4S as a retail customer or as a business customer (assuming I can with a single 'phone)?

2. Buy direct from Vodafone or go via a retailer like Carphone Warehouse?

On the latter question: I can't really see any benefit. Any 'phone vaults or issues would be dealt with by Apple direct (we have an Apple Store in Cambridge), so we're really only dealing with carrier issues.

Buy it from who give you the best deal (cheapest) like you said, Apple take care of the warranty so it does not really make that much difference. More likely to blag a couple of freebees from Carphone although forget Carphones Geek Squad insurance as its crap and very, very over priced!
