Shifting excess stock

Hi all,

I run an online store but have excess stock I need to shift. I'm currently running a Black Friday sale offering 40% off but at the rate we're not making sales I don't think we'll manage to shift it all.

I've called a few independent retail stores around London to see if they'd be interested in wholesale acquisition...no such luck.

Any ideas??

It's women's evening dresses. I'd like to sell it as soon as I'm able so I can repurpose that capital to buy new stock. Wholesale value is around 7k.

I don't know anything about auction houses tbh but we only have 40 units so I'm not sure they'd go for that?

You are correct in thinking that any stock liquidation service is going to be offering you a lot less than cost price.

However, discounting on your website will only work if you get enough traffic to be tempted by the offer, or if you promote the offer widely enough. In actual fact, I find that if you have relatively small quantitites of an item left, discounting struggles to shift it - it is often not price that has resulted in the items still being there.

Probably, you are best placed to just max the cash you can get for these items and not worry too much about getting cost price. You can use the money to get current stuff that will potentially sell more quickly.

Neither should you be too concerned about the situation. Every retailer ends up with some stuff that, given hindsight, they might have bought fewer of!

Boot sale, if you can be bothered to do it.

40 items this side of Xmas should go in one day.

Make a sign: "Any Realistic Offer Accepted"

Be prepared to take a loss.

It really depends on if you are looking to dispose of the stock to generate cash quickly.

If this is not the case, offer a local retailer, sale or return at a price he will easily sell for as well as giving him a minimum 50% profit.

In fashion, with redundant stock, your first loss is your best loss.
