Sharing business rates

We've found an office that's perfect for us, the only issue is its too big for us at present. A friend of mine is in a similar line of work and would be interested in sharing the office with us and splitting the rent 50/50. The landlord is fine with this but I was just wondering where we stand with the rates? Can this be split in the same way?

Theres not standard practice- you can split it however you want.

However just make sure you get it in writing - even if they are a friend you need to make sure both parties are protected if they other decided they can't pay their half.
