Just a quick post to find out the score on a debate I have with a friend, he is planning on launching a competition where he only wants men to enter is he allowed to do this and regarding his website can he say that the competition is for men only?

I suppose it depends on the competition - there are comps specific to women - take this Women in the Hot Seat Challenge for example:

Discrimination laws cover important things like employment not competitions. He can make it men only if he wants (but I wonder why he wants to?).

There are other laws regarding competitions though, mainly to avoid being seen as a lottery. As long as there is an element of skill involved (a question to answer) then its ok.

Ok sounds like he will be fine to me.

There is a reason for this I can't mention what it is all about at the moment, but I will post on here about it here when I am aloud as it will be something I would have thought alot of people would want to be involved in. An element of skill will be involved so he should be fine.

Competition may be OK but one has to be careful that it is not part of a service otherwise it will be unlawful. Further assessment of the circumstances is required before I can ascertain this
