Setting Up Email Help Please!

Hi,

I have bought a domain from 123-reg.co.uk and mail service with a mailbox. i have also bought web hosting from Godaddy.com.

I have begin to set up a website and it is live however i really need the email to work.

I am getting an error message on the 123 page which says:

"MX Settings Problem !!!

Your mx settings are not set, as such any email addresses made here will not work."

Under MX settings i have changed mx0.123-reg.co.uk. (priority 10) to mx0.info.mydomain.co.uk.

I can send Emails but cannot Receive emails. Can anybody help PLEASE??

If I have understood the setup properly the problem is that your MX record is pointing toward GoDaddy, not 123-Reg.co.uk

Your mailbox is located at 123-Reg.co.uk, correct?

What's happening is 123-Reg is telling the internet your domain exists on a GoDaddy server. So any mail being pointed at your domain name is being directed toward the GoDaddy server your website is on and more importantly, where your mail server isn't.

I am unfamilliar with 123-Reg.co.uk's specific setup, but my guess would be that MX Record should have stayed as mx0.123-Reg.co.uk
Incoming mail is asking where to be processed, the answer is 123-Reg.co.uk where your mailbox is.. not GoDaddy where your website is.

123-Reg know what to do with mail sent to them with your domain name on it. They re-direct everything else to GoDaddy but pluck out mail and stick it into your mailbox.

Hi Jeff thanks for your comment however i am still receiving the message:


"This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed."


Any idea of how can over come this?

I have actually messaged 123-reg for help 3 times with no response. The mx records have always been exactly what you have stated them to be.

In your post you state that you changed your MX record from 123.reg to mx0.info.mydomain.co.uk.

so how can you say that they have always remained on 123.reg.

Apologies computer storm.

What i meant to say is that since i have purchased services from 123-reg they have been mx0.123-reg.co.uk. Then after about a few months or so i changed to mx0.info.mydomain.co.uk. to see if that would work.

It has only been mx0.info.mydomain.co.uk. for about a few days or so. so for majority of the time it has been mx0.info.mydomain.co.uk

I would like to point out that this issue is specific to your settings and not a greater issue with our mail services, so without the domain it is difficult to assist you.

I have the same problem on regular occurrences. my emails work fine for weeks then all of a sudden without me changing any settings it stops working and tells me that my MX settings are incorrect. they are set as recommended to

mx0.123-reg.co.uk. - priority: 10
mx1.123-reg.co.uk. - priority: 20

but i tried re entering the values in again just to be sure, my email still doesnt work. This is for my domain emmanicholl.info

the same thing is happening to me on a regular occurrence. my email will work fine for a while and then all of a sudden, without me having changed any settings, my email will stop working. I have the mx settings set to

It could indeed be an intermittent problem with their DNS service. Have you asked their technical support for help? I don't know if their support is any good but they're best placed to help.

For this type of problem our guys would work back from your domain name to diagnose the fault with your email (if any).
