Setting up Direct Debit Service

Has anyone got experience of having their bank account approved to pull direct debits from Customers? We applied in December 2010 - Is it typical to wait 4 - 5 months for this service to be approved by your bank?

We found the banks a pain and their merchant services which are 3rd party were even worse, and no one there had any idea of online business, we ended up using Paypal and they have been very good I must say.

search for cashbacs or eazipay, chances are slim to unlikely you will get your own originators reference to collect DD yourself.

I use http://www.landz.co.uk/ and they have been fine and very helpful. There are setup and small monthly collection fees so not sure how this compares to collecting DDs through your bank.

Why don't you design your own Standing Order Form and give that to your customer to fill in, Then just send it to your bank, easy and FREE!!!

Fine when you collect the same amount each month, not so useful otherwise, also SO makes it difficult to upgrade/upsell clients, increase prices, or cope with VAT changes (hopefully won't be any more of those for a while).
