Hi
I have just added an affiliate section to my company website.
We installed VM Affiliate which works with Joomla and Virtumart.
We have not gone live yet as we always complete lots of testing before launching any new extension to the site but I have to say both the front and back end are very easy to use and setup.
I would recommend this to anyone looking to do this themselves rather than have a company controlling your affiliates.

I hope that this helps

There is a fantastic software package for setting up your own affiliate programme from idevdirect - there are other packages available as well but building your own network of affiliates is more cost effective this way. Alternatively you could go to someone like affiliate future or commission junction (just mentioning 2 of numerous companies) who manage the whole process for you but it is more expensive as you have to deposit funds to pay affiliates and they charge fees for handling. There is also a very useful affiliate website - affiliates4u which is a forum/info site on the world of affiliates. rgds Michelle (pls add the 3 's and dot coms to complete my wording as it won't allow me to post urls until I have built up some more replies)

ThriftySoftware

Hi
I expended a lot of time and effort some years ago researching this, I needed a program to run on an adult site for a cliet - in the end i decided that all the hostes solutions were too expensive, so we opted for a system installed on our server - these guys set us up
http://www.qualityunit.com/postaffiliatepro/

That software ran for 5 years without a hitch , all I needed to do was run a report at the end of each month and pay out whatever was due, either by cheque or paypal, I see the latest software version now actually integrates with the payment method - so doesn't need the 'monthly cheque run' that i used to do. It worked fairly well for us we had around 300 affiliates in it, but decided to close it down last year due to abuse (adult sites attract some strange visitors!) If you need any more info, drop me a line [email protected]

Cheers

Steve

We used, host and have integrated for number of clients the idevaffiliate system - works very well.

You do get a lot of spammers/wasters sign up in order to "promote" their ppc/virus/spam URLs (with all affiliate problems you should validate who you are allowing to sell/promote your products)

We've only just stopped using it ourselves as we're beta-testing our own system which is more tightly woven into the visitor tracking/analytics/stats for our own websites.

Hi Chris,

Using Pearl you can tags affiliates to sales so that commission is automatically calculated. At the end of the month you hit a button to see all your affiliates and how much you owe. You can even raise the invoice or PO in a couple of clicks.. Simple!

You can set default % commission rate for each affiliate or specify a % or fixed £ amount per order. Pearl is super flexible so can accommodate pretty much all ways of doing business.

Pearl will also handle your stock mgmt, website, accounting, CRM and more.

Give me a shout if you would like a free trial account!

how do you find people with web sites that want to run your advert? I have a lovelset of banners, a way to track the link to a sale and a way to apy, just no one with my adverts on their site?? Anyone help?
Thanks
Cool bananas

This is why I'd use a network, as a retailer you'll find many more affiliates using a network and much quicker. (Joining a network isn't expensive, normally starting from £100 excluding commission payments depending on how good and how popular.)

Secondly, many affiliates don't trust private schemes... Many retailers are just dodgy and will steal sales from you if possible, this is why many like networks.
