Setting Up A New Windows 8 Machine

Whenever I have set up a machine for work before I have created an account named "Admin" for me to use in case I have to go in and sort things out - in that way I get my own desktop and settings etc

When I did a windows 8 machine back I had to submit an email address for this "Admin" name account as part of their making it all work seamlessly together

I now want to set up a new machine

So can I /should I use the same email for the "Admin" named account or should I be using a different email account

Using an email on a Windows 8 pc creates a Microsoft account. As I understand it using the same email means that your Micrsoft account follows you to any pc you use it to login to. You can create an account without an email address.

Unfortunately, Microsoft is very strict on these things, also apps that come under the Win 8 roof requires this account and you can't disconnect it.

It's very important when you're using Skype - it won't let you log in to e.g. company's account and your personal one on the same machine.

If you're struggling with this issue, simply download the Skype for Desktop and uninstall the Skype "app". The Skype for Desktop should work as any other Skype version.

I'm not quite sure why Microsoft is so obsessed with that - it may not immediately relate to your question, but I'm sure it will come up at some point.

You can also create a local account and have win 8 not log in to the microsoft account, but to the local machine account. Apps can be set to not connect to your account too. I stay away from apps and log in without logging to my microsoft account.

I created a local account as suggested and this has worked well

They hide it a touch - I think I had to do create new account and it is at the bottom

I also set up the real world user account in the same way and then they can decide whether they want to leave it like this or set it up with a ms account at sometime and synch it all up

I was able to install disc based versions of office and get updates etc

But I suspect that if we go down the office 365 route that will change

Aye they hide it alright, and the average user buying a new laptop, etc gets conned into using a Microsoft Account whether they want to or not.
Without a local account, they cannot get onto their machine when the have no internet access lol
