If a US English customer asked you 'What position is my site in on Google?', how would you lookup the info to make sure it's right for US English searches?

I know that you can go into advanced search options and tell it you want a particular language like English, and you can tell it you want United States, and it adds the following codes to the search:

Code:
&lr=lang_en
Code:
&cr=countryUS

But then when I add or use the typical US code suggested by SEOs:
Code:
&gl=US

It gives me different position in the search results?

SEP web tools that I've found all argue over the correct position, some agree with an un-tweaked search, some agree with tweaked results, and others just seem to be pulling from random numbers.. ;P

So if a US English customer asked you 'What position is my site in on Google?', how would you lookup the site position on Google to make sure it's the correct position # for US English searches?
